Glen Eyrie and Garden of the Gods

We went to Focus on the Family's headquarters first this morning.  It rained all night last night and all day today.  They had a giant slide, some play areas for the kids and a huge Adventures In Odyssey themed area.

This is the castle at Glen Eyrie.  It has been the headquarters to the ministry called" The Navigators"
since the 1950's.  We toured the castle and the grounds were breathtaking, even in the rain!

This was the parking lot.  These amazing rock structures are all over the property.

This is The Garden of the Gods.  This is very close to Glen Eyrie and it has more amazing rock formations!

This famous rock is known as balanced rock.  We drove in between these praying the RV wouldn't knock it down!

We had a very uncamping evening at P.F. Changs and a visit to the Apple Store.  It was a great day.  Tomorrow we are hoping to take the cog train up to Pike's Peak!  It's 14,000 feet high!

Last day at Estes Park and arriving in Colorado Springs

Downtown Estes Park

Alluvial Falls

Jr. Rangers!

The elk were right outside the RV!  We ate dinner among them at our site and they minded their own business.

Vivi enjoying the zoo outside

We drove three hours south to Colorado Springs. First stop: The Airforce Academy

This was our first family campfire night.  We had a community fire in Estes Park because there are restrictions on burning campfires. We met a great family who also homeschools back in Estes. They had three girls and Sydney had a great time playing with them.  We used Carmello's for Smore's- now Hershey's bars will be boring to me!

Enjoying God's creation in Rocky Mountain National Park

Psalms 95:3-6

"For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

In His hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are His also.

The sea is His, for He made it, and the dry land, which His hands have formed.

O come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!

St. Louis and 3 Birthday's!

On the long ride from Indianapolis to somewhere in Kansas, we stopped to see the "Gateway to the West" in St. Louis.  Inside the arch there was a great museum and the kids earned their first Jr. Ranger badge!

The arch was bigger than any of us imagined and we went up in a compartment that looked like the inside of a dryer!

That night we slept in Kansas City at a Walmart!  We were surprised to find out that Walmart welcomes RV's in their parking lots for overnight stays!  It was very convenient and free :)

When we woke up at Walmart, we had three very special birthday's to celebrate!

Our goal was to make it to Denver by dinner time to go to "Casa Bonita"! I went to this crazy restuarant with my high school youth group and I never forgot it!  They have cliff divers, a crazy play with a gorilla, an arcade, and a funhouse!

The famous Casa Bonita gorilla! Vivi would not get near him for this picture.

Putting together birthday gifts on the road!

Good old Mexican fried ice cream for dessert!

Packing Up

Here we are in our driveway packing up the camper for our three week adventure!  We are traveling from Fort Wayne, Indiana to San Francisco, California. Our original plan was to rent an RV in Denver and see Colorado and the Grand Canyon.  John stumbled upon an amazing deal where we get to deliver this RV, which was made near where we live, to its rental location in San Francisco!  We only have to pay for gas and an extra week.

Our parents came over to help get us out the door quicker!

We stayed at our friends' campground in Indy the first night to "practice" our RV skills.  John is actually holding a "coupler"(you'll get that if you've watched the movie RV).  Dave and Lori own the KOA in Indy.  They are good friends that we met in a young married group at our church in Akron, OH as newlyweds.  Their campground is so much fun and they do a great job making it a fun stay for families.
